If you're studying in France on a titre de séjour étudiant, you renew it every year on ANEF (administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr). Since 2024 the entire renewal flow is online — except biometrics, which still happen in person at the préfecture once your dossier passes the document review.
The deadline is hard. File between four and two months before your current titre expires. Filing later is technically allowed but you risk a gap where your titre has expired and the récépissé hasn't arrived, which means no legal right to work, travel back into France, or sign anything official.
You'll need your current titre, a valid passport (at least three months remaining beyond the new title), an inscription certificate from your university, proof of resources (€7,380 minimum for 2026 — bank statements, parental commitment, or scholarship), and proof of address less than three months old. Diplomas from the past year matter: you have to show academic progression for the renewal to be granted.
